Send our youth to fight a war and worry not what it is for,
Invoking tales of those before who did the same and even more.
Ignore a million marchers there and voices clamouring everywhere
And allow some moral wear and tear for the rising evil in the air.
Make this country great again! Extol the blood of virtuous men
Who fought and died, both now and then, in this same place and regimen.
Decide our fate behind plush doors with unelected friends of yours,
Who react by passing useless laws and embellishing the moral cause.
Be wary of the dangers here; broadcast them long and loud and clear
So people know who they should fear and don’t notice when they disappear.
Better keep us entertained with the faded flutter of Olympic chains;
Distracted from the name we’ve gained and the years of loose accord we’ve strained.
Let the media out to scare and hint at chaos in the air
And hope we never notice where the funding went for social care;
Or soften us with alcohol and gambling and digital
Before you finally tell us all your actions, once, were criminal.
