Laugh at Terrible Things

I sometimes sat with Steve in his restful room
with the sun streaming in, trimming the edges of his dog,
encircling her in a holy halo, and playing gently
on Steve's features, softening the contours
in a water-colour wash of the face.
I sometimes sat with Steve and laughed at terrible things
that in polite company would have made us feel guilty
for the flippant lack of sensitivity - but laughter is free
and there wasn't much else either of us could afford.
I sometimes sat with Steve and said nothing,
both of us quiet in our lazy lack of get up and go.
Then too quickly it was time to leave,
and that is what I did -
I got up to go.
I sometimes sat with Steve, and his dog was pleased
when I stood up to put on my coat.
Then I'd kiss Steve's cheek, and for one whole week
we wouldn't speak, saying nothing at all.
Then he'd open the door and I'd be there again
for a hug and the tea, and the dog was displeased,
but she'd know -
I sometimes sat with Steve - then I'd leave,
and she'd be glad to see me go.

Hi Bee,
Hi Bee,
Steve's dog might have been glad to see you leave - so she could have him to himself, but the fact she knew that it was temporary was a nice touch.

Bee, you have done it again.
Bee, you have done it again. You have created something lovely for us all to enjoy and done it with gentle humour. Loved the structure too especially how you have positioned the third and the last stanza.
A really enjoyable read that encourages us all to smile.
