Cometh the Hour

He’s arrived at last, you must come and see.
There is no comet but he’s surely a prophet;
he’s sporting a beard, his initials are J.C.
We are happy to accept his rigorous tenet.
He has promised a new dawn for each of us,
to give to Peter what he will take from Paul.
He shall do it on the quiet without any fuss
and he very well knows that it is a long haul.
His firm opposition to the three-pronged fork
has drawn gasps of horror from his own rank.
Some of his followers disagreed of that talk
but he always said he’d be honest and frank.
Not a man with black hair or a raucous voice
as the name suggests,* but with a grey head,
he has been the extreme Left popular choice
and wants to win back the comrades who fled.
It remains to be seen if he’ll have any chance
to be the top dog when it comes to the crunch
given that he insists on an inflexible stance
or whether he’ll be given a knockdown punch.

* The surname Corbyn may have derived as
a nickname for a man with strikingly glossy
black hair or for one with a raucous voice.

Quite a clever thoughtful
Quite a clever thoughtful summary Not sure about the prophet – could be more of a comet I suppose?!. Enjoyed grasping the three pronged fork's meaning! Rhiannon

'He has promised a new dawn
'He has promised a new dawn for each of us,
to give to Peter what he will take from Paul.' That's key - isn't it what they all do? He's certainly talked about. Like the poem, Luigi - you should maybe send it to a paper.

Interesting poem. I enjoyed
Interesting poem. I enjoyed it. Corbyn does seem to be one of the most interesting figures in politics all of a sudden. The idea that someone could enter high office and remain true to all their values is a fascinating one. And many of us would love some kind of 'real' left rebirth. It is just a matter of getting all the policies right!
