island

I built this wall to live
behind
so I could feel freer
that tells you how messed I was on
the island
No one came
but they knocked,
god did they knock
and I cowered
whilst watching their backs
leave me repeatedly
Once I called
they turned, I hid
which made me erect another
layer
high enough now
to enshadow my view
to protect me from
further partings
My dreams:
drenched in the sweat of
my surrounding seas
night upon night
(how I longed to sleep!)
break the brittle bones of thought
to soar my perimeter
and plunge to my very depths
I lived for darkness, ticket to
boarding-pass highway
where mergers were sewn
amidst sickening waves and
pulling currents
which lapped my sleeping brow
like a puppy anxious for its owner
One day I heard a sound
pidgeoned by the breezes
tapping
thumping
pounding my door
this time I went
heaved to find a parcel
unwrapped to find
a person
clutching a reflection
of myself

What is it they say...no man is an island? Sometimes that's how it feels. I love this piece.
