Cometh the Hour

We value your customs,
we are proud of our staff.
The assurance I was given
seemed fair enough.
At ten o'clock, promptly,
our operative will come.
I waited and I waited
for nine hours and some
but no man nor woman
to these premises came.
The excuses they gave
were rather lame.
Our native employees
are not skilled or willing
and think that this job
is less than thrilling.
It was because of Brexit
and the UK/EU feud
that to a foreign worker
no visa could be issued.
Our personnel have Covid
and cannot speak to you;
our switchboard is busy
and you are in a queue.
That cliched expression
"Cometh the hour, cometh
the man" is no longer true;
it's nothing but a myth.
No workman will arrive
at the appointed hour;
the only thing we can do
is to grumble and glower.

The words of your poem ring
The words of your poem ring true for me too, in fact I'd guess for everyone who reads this as it is a world wide dilemma and happening, frustratingly...Everywhere! But we can hope for a brighter new year...or some year ahead.

Much sympathy from me too,
Much sympathy from me too, Luigi. I was trying for a week to ring a number, but there was no queue, only a voice saying after 2 rings, "we are too busy right now, please try later" no matter what time I rang. Then one day, someone answered! I was amazed and delighted, only to find it was not the place I had rung! As, after the same lady answered twice, I told her which number I was ringing, and she confirmed it was not the number of the place she was working. Next day, the problem was fixed... back to 2 rings then disconnected :0)
Anyway, sorry about the rant, well done using your time in the queue so well writing this poem :0)
