1945

In 1945 I was 10 years old.
"The war is over", I was told.
It was news I hardly believed:
peace had, at last, been achieved.
When I asked who had won
they said, "The good guys, son."
Other wars happened since,
events that made me wince
realising that, at times,
the perpetrators of crimes,
people we all despise,
triumph, not the good guys.

Also glad to see you writing
Also glad to see you writing again, Luigi.
There is quite a difference between evil malicious oppressors winning, and the ups and downs of follies and kindness of ordinary rulers of basically good intention for the good of their people, isn't there? And the latter can be called to account! Rhiannon

You make a very imortant
You make a very imortant point here Luigi, that the good guys do not always win, even now in the Post 1945 world. It is important that we all realise that!

I have spent my life learning
I have spent my life learning about 'winners' and the grim reality that in truth there are a lot of losers. I thank you for this touching piece of work Luigi

Why do the good guys always win?
Why do the good guys always win? Because they get to write the history books.
Cheers Luigi! Tom
