Three O’Clock Sheep Club

Those sheep
Jumping the wall
They're all asleep
So I count the cracks in the wall
Doesn't help at all
I’m alone
But I know I’m not alone
All around the world
Millions lie in beds
Trying to catch some zeds
Anxieties unfurled and whirled
Cyclones twist our heads
In a sleep exclusion zone
Drinking camomile tea
A cat dozes on my knee
Mocking me
I could write some poetry
That might send me
Off to sleep mid-verse
End this night-time curse
But it didn't
Because I've finished it, it seems
Unless this is just a dream

Every image I use is from a photograph I have taken myself.
On this occasion – The sheep of my dreams.

Cats are way too clever at getting to sleep aren't they? Maybe you could try a sheep with less interesting horns next time, or The World Service. Good luck!

Summed up that feeling of
Summed up that feeling of lying awake, the anxiety of missing out on the essential shut down hours and all worries magnified. Counting sheep, who came up with that? A farmer perhaps but I bet they sleep like babies anyway.

You know the best part about being retired is that you haven't got to worry about getting up for work. Isn't it wonderful...especially when insomnia hits nighttime rest?
Those pesky sheep never help me get off to sleep, I just find them boring with their baaing...even counting them doesn't do anything for me. But I promise you I've never had anything against real sheep, I think they're more intelligent than we think.
At least you got this engaging poem out of your disturbed night's sleep.
Jenny.

Ah a quick cherry for the insomniac! No surprises there. I'm resorting to counting my home moves, up to 30 soon as you know. Trouble is I get distracted worrying about the circumstances surrounding each move, how when and where, so it doesn't actually help.
Any road (as you so frequently say) I like the poem x

I enjoyed this a lot. I love the title and the 'sheep exclusion zone'. I wonder what sheep count when they can't sleep. People maybe. Sometimes I've dreamt I can't sleep which feels much the same. Here's to sheep-free nights!
