Cold Calling

I loved you the moment I saw you
I didn't know what to do
I hadn't expected this
had ceased hoping
after the door to door selling
of my soul reduced to
bargain basement price
with a no returns policy
not affecting statutory rights
I haven't much more to give.
I turned to you and saw you smile
you had beautiful eyes and
I wanted you to hold me and
tell me that you would buy me
and never give me back
that my flaws didn't warrant
a credit note and that
the faulty beat of my heart
was music to your ears.
I don't know what to do
I hadn't expected this
I feel weightless; breathless,
desperate and though I want
to give you all that I have
all that I am and all that I can be
I am truly scared of finding me
then losing me
of being taken apart
but not rebuilt
of you in my past but
not in my future.
I want you to know that
I love you; that I always will
and though I know you won't
understand I need you to
put me back on the shelf
this time up high
allow the dust to collect
upon me and place
a faulty sticker where
all can see
fill in the form
at the cash desk
get your money back
and leave.
