Messrs King and Kerouac both made me want to write
Their Horror and Beat novels were the first I had to bite
Grisly ghosts and vampires, mysterious stolen letters,
I started out writing horror, but poetry proved better.
Soon I discovered that I could rhythm and rhyme
With the best of poets, for most of the time.
I relished the pleasure of playing with words,
which seemed to form stanzas , of their own accord.
I wrote poems on paper, on websites and zines,
I Skyped them and typed them, on dusty laptop screens.
My horror tales were cliche-filled, and really not too good,
Recycling old psychotic tropes, and squeezing out the blood..
So here I am a poet,a potential go-getter,
I started out writing horror, but poetry proved better!
