Very aural. I remember the call of pukekos, mixing with mist and the dawn chorus, indefinable, like this search to categorise this unique bird, 'a coot with title', nothing noble about the pukeko but the memory dissolving, hopefully not to nothing.  Readers can make anything personal.  Thanks for this Pat!

Glad to fan the New Zealand memory embers. 

I was alarmed to read pukekos were being culled - although the hunters accidentally shot the rare bird they were protecting.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-34002493
