Mable's Gable

Last week I had the easy job
Of painting Mable’s gable.
Paint it green she said to me
As we sat around her table.
I’ll go and get my tools I said
And thanked her for the tea.
It really shouldn’t take long to do,
I should be done by 3.
That afternoon the paint was dry
And Mable called and said,
I really like that shade of green
But could you paint it red?
On Tuesday I came back again,
And set about the chore
Of sanding off the lovely green
And painting it once more.
Mable’s gable looked a sight
A stunning scarlet hue.
But Mable wasn’t satisfied.
She wanted it in blue.
I tried to keep my temper,
But alas I was unable
My face began to flush
And turned as red as Mable’s gable.
I threw a pail of paint down,
left a brush there on the shelf,
And said good day as I walked away
NOW PAINT THE THING YOURSELF!
