Grief is a Shower of Rocks

Grief is a shower of rocks
Descending from the rolling clouds
Which darkened the skies of my truth
Each cusped and hard enough to
Carve this strange, unknown scape
In which I stand a stranger
Bruised and astray, I shut my eyes
Grief is a cave which closes
When your back is turned
And in the cave the same
Song plays in a blind hall
On an ever choking loop
Echoed layers, fused lines
Broken like my memory slides
Grief in as unmade road
On which you have no legs to walk
How it falls away and crumbles
At the heels of those who try to stay
You must go forth, go forth or plunge
Become obscure among the piles
Of dust, the rubble of yesterday
Grief is a hungry dog
A stilt hound which feeds upon
The fat of carefree days
Upholstered layers reflect the
Certain patterns of your past
Your future in the mirrored fold
He gnaws to the bare bone frame
Grief is a sleeping pill
A dulling lense to filter
The glaring lights of normalcy
A buffer to your cosmos blown apart
A long dream, a coma of recoil
It grounds the fatal voltage dose
Small shocks each time you wake

When grief strikes, so many
When grief strikes, so many emotions can hit like a ton of bricks falling on us all at once. A very poignant poem that describes those feelings so well.
A powerful poem indeed. Hope you are okay Jane.

Have you had great trouble,
Have you had great trouble, Jane? Grief and bereavement can never be fully imagined, and as you intimate, shake everything to the core, and you are suddenly walking a parallel life, cocooned. Rhiannon

I think anyone who's ever
I think anyone who's ever been in that place will recognise what's in this powerful piece. Echoing Jenny and Rhiannon, I hope you're ok?

As others have said, hope
As others have said, hope that you're OK, Jane. This is brilliant, I was particularly held by the phrase 'the rubble of yesterday'. That is exactly what it feels like.

Wow! From the title all the way through, every metaphor is brilliant, each stanza hits home hard. Have not felt like this for a long time, but you bring it back so clearly. It must have been hard for you going back into your memories, I hope you came out OK
