A Literary Ghoul

On Halloween night I met a ghoul
most traditional, of the old school.
He suffered from hunger's pangs
but he had a pair of blunt fangs.
That wasn't why he wouldn't bite;
it was because he was too polite.
He was wont to eat human flesh,
but now he wants to start afresh.
All he devours are scholarly books.
He is very old and lost his looks,
he must be at least a centenarian.
In his lifetime, he was a librarian;
the proud keeper of many tomes
by the creator of Sherlock Holmes
and also some by Truman Capote
but none of those that I wrote.
