I was in TKMaxx and saw in the reduced food section two packs of tea bags, it had the words in big letters, “Keep Calm and Drink Tea.” I checked the date and it was 2024 and there were forty tea bags in each pack. I checked that the packs were completely sealed and they were. The price for each was £1 a bargain I thought.

My plan was to put them in my little box of dried foods where I keep my long dated tins for the future, not to be touched this year, there just for emergency. I was chuffed with my purchase.

At home, looking again at my two packs of tea, before I put them in my box, I could see smaller writing under the words, tea bags, I went and got my reading glasses so I could see what it said, I couldn’t believe my eyes, as I read the words, Earl Grey.

Oh dear, I tried Earl Grey many years ago, before I got married, and like Camomile, I tried to like them both, but just couldn’t, with Earl Grey, been worse than Camomile. I'm SO glad I noticed that before I put them in my box for the future, for emergency, for even in an emergency, I would not drink it!

A week later, I took it back, and said to the staff of the till, “I have to return this, it is horrible,” She replied, “I have never tasted it,” The other staff next to her said, “It tastes like lemons,” I said to them both, “No, it tastes like dishwasher water.”

She checked to make sure I had not opened it, and gave me my refund. I had had a lucky escape. I wasn’t even tempted to try it again, even after all these years.

They should have labelled it more clearly. However Earl Grey is a pleasant variant from normal tea in my opinion! I am sure it has enabled me to write certain pieces I might not otherwise have written over the years.

I always think it is amazing how we all like and dislike different things. I have tried, well not really tried but I have tasted Marmite it is horrible! Peanut is a close second, both gross. I offered them both to my kids when they were under one years old and they both loved Marmite neither loved peanut butter. My adult son now eats peanut butter because he goes to the gym and he knows it is good for him. I hated olives but heard it was good for memory so I ate it until I loved it, but I still hate walnuts I heard that was good for memory too. I hate 99% of nuts! I only love the chocolate bar Topic and Marathon or by the 'new' Snickers. 

I said to the staff at the till if they had put Earl Grey in HUGE letters it would never be sold! laugh but I am glad you like it. It takes all sorts to live in this World, You Me, and billions of others. I didn' like Biscoff biscuits at all, but now I love it with my morning cuppa, and almost have withdrawal symptoms when I run out    laugh

Earl Grey is one of the few things I don't like, but am surprised to find most, or very many people think it a real delicacy and are please to be able to offer it. I think I only tried it once too, and felt convinced it reminded me of moth-balls. Maybe I am too used to my weak 'ordinary' tea! Rhiannon

I think it's an acquired taste, or if you have drank it for most of your Life. I didn't grow up with it, I tried it in my early 30's when I lived alone and was single and trying to be healthy to try and balance out my junk eating life 

laugh for I was never a healthy eater so I would buy these posh boxed hot drinks to try and get some healthy into my systems I tried them, and didn't like any of them or maybe just the peppermint tea that I would drink once a year and the next ime I wanted a drink it was out of date.

my favourite hot drink is hot chocolate, then tea then coffee.

my favourite cold drink is fizzy orange  pop not diet and rybena nice n sweet.

I wouldn't choose Earl Grey, but I can drink it if offered in someone's house. I really don't get on with herbal teas, though. They always taste like slightly rancid water to me. And I've tried all sorts. I think it's because, decades ago, I drank them when I was pregnant with my first child because milk made me throw up. Since then I always associate herbal teas with morning sickness!

I do love my Marmite though!

I agree I wouldn't choose Earl Grey either. I think most people have tried herbal teas some time in their lives for whatever reasons usulaly to do with their health. I tried Camomile to help me sleep! but it didnt work as I ate too many sugary things  laughand fizzy pop back then. 

Yes you summed it up well, they taste slightly rancid , for me the only ones that was slightly ok was the pepperment or mint but even then it was like a  once a year.

I'm glad you love Marmite I gave it to my Children when they were babies so that they would be in the Marmite 'Club' and they loved it then. I don't think they love it now as they haven't had it as an adult.

That is lovely to hear. I tried iced tea once in a can about 20 years ago Lipton Iced Tea, it wasn't for me. I have a sweet tooth.
