The Lighthouse Keeper

The lighthouse keeper turned off his light,
And wide-eyed stood in awe,
He dropped his teacup in his fright,
At the terrible thing he saw.

He went outside to survey the scene,
It was worse than he had feared.
Things weren’t the way they should have been,
The sea had disappeared.

A spider crab was really mad,
And shouted at the sky
Give us back our ocean now,
Why’s the seabed dry?

A beached blue whale flapped its tail,
At the crazy red crustacean,
And a pod of silver dolphins,
Discussed the situation.

A fishing boat lay on the sand,
Her captain scratched his head.
In 30 years of fishing,
I’ve not seen this, he said.

The cabin boy looked guilty
And said, can I explain?
I pulled this chain I found back there,
And the sea’s gone down the drain.
