Visiting Grandma

Oh hello dear,
It’s you, come in.
You’re looking gaunt,
So small, too thin.
Have a drink,
Nice cup of tea
Just one sugar?
I’ll make it three.
Some cake I just baked,
A biscuit or two?
You’ll be staying for dinner,
I’m making beef stew.
Slice that bread on the side dear,
Spread that butter on thickly.
The Jam is homemade,
It’s too sweet and quite sickly.
Some juice from the fridge dear?
You need vitamin C.
Here’s a plate for your cake,
And a mug for your tea.
I’ll just nip to the Kitchen,
And burn you some toast.
Is it white bread you said dear,
Or the brown you like most?
I’ll make you a sandwich,
I’ve some lovely boiled ham.
A top up of tea dear?
How’s my strawberry Jam?
So how is your mother?
Now here’s a real treat,
I’ve got chocolate éclairs dear,
I find them too sweet.
Here take a bagel,
Go on grab a few.
That’s your toast I can smell
Was it one slice or two?
Ooooh here’s something special,
I just bought this cheese,
Take some crackers and olives,
And try one of these.
Oh look at the time dear,
I’ve so much to do.
I’ll fix you a gin,
I’m having one too,
You’re not saying much dear,
I hope nothing’s wrong,
You’re probably starving.
That stew won’t be long.
