Essential Sunshine and Showers (IP)

Lying, listening to the rain,
welcome, restful soft refrain.
Water falling,
filtering down and filling
spaces in the soil:
seeds soon swelling,
triggering, compelling
germination,
elongation,
tip emerging,
upwards surging,
reaching for the sun,
photosynthesis begun
– photons empower
this factory to flower,
when bathed in a regular shower.

Well, thank you all three - Tina, Adbates, and Vera, I'm so glad you liked the rhythm of this one - the idea was buzzing around in my mind after reading the inspiration point and thinking of me listening to the rain, and the seed responding to it, but I realised I must keep it brief and taut to make it interesting and snappy! regards, Rhiannon

HI Rhiannon

This is a lovely poem - and shows your appreciation of nature and how it works so well. It's quite clever how you can get matching words that actually make sense.

I do enjoy rain - even when its pounding down as it has been a few times this last week. But my bedroom is in a dormer, and I must admit that I wake up when I hear it - with mixed emotions - depending on whether I can sooth myself back to sleep with the noise, or if that doesn't work feel frustrated.

Glad you enjoyed it again, Jean, and thanks for your comment. I usually like hearing the rain outside, when I'm feeling warm and cosy indoors! It also seems to remind me of my childhood when I liked the gurgly hot water cylinder in my bedroom! Rhiannon
