Nearly Awake

I was close to
embracing spring,
its purity fresh faced
like a maiden;
nature's pink blossom
radiating on her
blushing,
smiling cheeks,
while showers
have applauded
return of
warmer days,
limbs will
shoot out new life,
while half hidden buds
are longing to flirt.
As sun rises
once more,
so too does spider,
lacing boughs with
fine gossamer – while
spying with beady eyes
a butterfly flutter by,
curious life
awakens
from sleepy
hibernation,
is it from
unknown dreams?
Has hedgehog
wrapped in prickly
coat tumbled
down hillside
slippery slope?
Discovered sleepy
flocks of sheep?
Wandered beside
fast running stream?
Maybe mouse
dreams of
wearing wings,
like the birds
that it's seen,
then flying
through clouds
of drizzly rain –
transported
out of earth's
atmosphere,
passing stars up
in the heavens;
discovering moon's
not made of cheese
so comes back down
to rest with ease,
worms don't care
to lie dormant
wriggling between
diverse neighbours,
no stony ground
left untouched,
as their surroundings
start to warm up.
Then those sheltered
woods so verdant
offer up a gift of shade,
sun glinting through
quivering leaves,
once more breathing
in that soft cool breeze.

What a lovely hopeful poem
What a lovely hopeful poem Jenny. I don't think things are quite there yet where I live, but soon!

Well done Jenny, fully needed
Well done Jenny, fully needed this poem on a day like today. There are signs out there, snowdrops and daffodil shoots, not long now.

An exquisite poem, dear Jenny
An exquisite poem, dear Jenny, full of delicate verses. These are some that caught my eyes:
"As sun rises
once more,
so too does spider,
lacing boughs with
fine gossamer – while
spying with beady eyes
a butterfly flutter by,"
One of your best, well done.

Nature brought to life. It
Nature brought to life. It somehow feels rather ike spring already. I enjoyed the optimism throughout and the depiction of other worlds beyond our own man-made pursuits, trivial and destructive as they are. I'm like your mouse, I dream of wearing wings.

What a whimisical walk I've
What a whimisical walk I've taken with you through the change of the season. I love the way you anthrmorphized the little mouse, dreaming of flying and discovering what that moon was made of. I love that bit very much. I too cannot wait for nicer weather, the grey, rainy days here are getting old. Needed some sunshine today, and your poem brough it to me.
