You Never Said

I missed sixty-one
Surely not all of them
I knew you for three
There must have been
A glass of something
In the Brewery Tap
Or wine bar
Where meatheads met chiffons
Where Alexander met Luther
Their musical wallpaper
Not matching the colour scheme
In our dream house
No memory of cards
Those forget-me-nots
We forgot to send
No precious souvenir
In paper and bows
To glitter and glow
For evermore
You never said
I too tend not to say
Just another day
I didn’t know it was today
Until last month
As brambles and thorns cleared
Reams of the past reappeared
The Cocteaus’ Bluebeard
On repeat
Nothing written down
Only blank pages
In my imaginary diary
You must have said
You must have said so many things
Maybe hidden beneath
Decades of angel dust
There’s a scribbled note
Something I wrote
So you’d know I was there
I’m still there
Somewhere
And I haven’t missed today
Today all I’ll miss
Is my Siren

This is such a sad reflective
This is such a sad reflective poem Turlough. It's always hard to put in to words how we feel about someone special we have known, but you've created such a wonderful personal memory here.
Memories are the one thing no one can take away.
Jenny.

Though this is full of
Though this is full of sadness and yearning, it is the Light words which seem the strongest - glitter and glow and stardust and music and dream. Your candle photo is perfect, the flame bringing warmth and brightness, undefeated as your memory you made together shines through years. Congratulations on Pick of the Week, really well deserved

Yes, this is a well deserved
Yes, this is a well deserved pick of the week. There are those poems that touch a heart chord and this is one. We do reflect on past connections and wonder if it is as remembered, or was something missed? ...“Imaginary Diary", I think we've all written in those. A great poem and again, very well deserving of all the accolades here.

I don't know how I missed
I don't know how I missed this poem. Some people are like mythical beings in the story of your life, and as time passes, their presence in your consciousness doesn't fade, it becomes yet more special. Their memory triggered by a date or a time of the year. Your words are a wonderful and stirring tribute.
