A Prince of Denmark once rued
The death of his father so crude
Death to Polonius
And King Claudius
So everyone ended up screwed.

Thank you for thinking highly of my story Wisdom Through a Mirror. This poem is short and straight to the point. It's funny. Thanks for sharing.

I love the Limerick, although it seems to be a dying art. I remember back in my school days - in the cave - they were all the rage. We had a teacher, who actually encouraged us to come up with one a day (the best one receiving a prize. They were a great way to focus on many aspects of the language discipline; a great way to get kids to use dictionaries or a thesaurus - and good fun into the bargain. See 'Stupid Aspirations' and 'A Great time for Poetry'...Thanks TC

A great limerick, although I've been meaning to read/watch Hamlet I think this pretty much sums it up from what I've heard :)

I dont see the point. It clearly sums it up quite well, but there was nothing clever about it.

In relation to the theme and
In relation to the theme and topic , keep it simple stupid is my advice . Address your use of metric feet and value . It should be uniform throuout the poem but you mis sections in this Limerick are way out of porportion .
The Limerick may look a simple and easy structure but the English expresion to be consise must have a little more value . Think more and give time to how you use words and metre .
Don't give up .

As for the critics - where do they get all those rules? They remind me od that guy in "Good Morning Vietnam" who kept lecturing Robin Williams' character on comedy.

Tony, I'm a HUGE fan of limericks. Just ordered Count Palmyro Vicarion's Book of Lewd Limericks from Amazon (aka Chris Logue). Read your three most recent ones. Ideally, you need to make them smutty (if only mildly) since smut is the very essence of the genre! Polonius/Claudius won't do. 'Phoney as' could be worked in! Keep at it!

You know me and poetry, love
You know me and poetry, love your prose, but this does what it says on the can. Good use of the IP and as you say, a quick length of the swimming pool for the brain rather than running an entire marathon. Any writing that makes you think, is good writing. Tony, I don't have time to read much these days, if I send you all the books that I haven't got time for, could you please limerick them for me. I've been on Life of Pi for two months and I NEED to know what happens to Richard Parker. And if you reply and say...' he dies,' I'll cry.
